Georgia Legislation Regarding ICE

Ice has become a widely popular federal law enforcement agency over recent months with the growth of their activity throughout U.S. cities. Especially in recent weeks with the murder of 2 citizens in Minnesota. So it’s no surprise that Georgias General Assembly has brought up bills about Ices activity in our state. The two bills referenced in these artifacts are SB 391 and 389. These two bills are aimed at protecting citizens as well as immigrants with in the state.

Nabilah Parkes (7th District Senators) posted this tweet regarding the SB 391 a bill in which is she is a sponsor of. This bill talks about how certain places should be inaccessible if they do not have a judicial warrant making them safe spaces for a group of people who may not have one. These safe spaces include schools, hospitals, libraries, college campuses, places of worship, and family violence shelters.

This post goes over SB 389 which suggests adding permitters the department of homeland security must follow with in the state. Permitters like requiring visible ID, not wearing masks, body cams, and other means to protect the public. Also allowing the state to sue the department of homeland security if needed. While the person who posted this didn’t have much to say the opinions really come out in the discourse in response to the post.

This account posted in support of two previously mentioned Senate Bills. They mentioned their support of the two bills but again didn’t have too much to say in respect to the bills. Other than that they want to see Ice have more accountability for what they do. What I see as important in this tweet is that they linked a path to where you can find the bills that they are supporting, which is something you usually don’t see online and rarely on social media.
