Analyzing Republican Proposed Bills
All of the bills that I have chosen to look further into and annotate for my blog are all Republican sponsored bills and Republican tweets. HB 1154, sponsored by David Clark (R-District 100) was introduced as an amendment to the procedures Georgia has for punishment of caught sex traffickers. HB 1154 allows the option of the death penalty to be selected as punishment, putting the crime of sex trafficking with murder. It is to go into effect later this year.
Sponsored by Joseph Gullett (R-District 19), another Republican sponsored bill, HB 522 is to amend the law in Georgia for recieving organ transplants regardless of records of vaccinations. This is aimed at allowing more recipients to recieve transplants and not be rejected based on if they have been vaccinated. While not in effect or passed as of February 2026, it is currently in committee review.
A Republican sponsored bill by Max Burns (R-District 23), SB 214 is to transition from electronic ballots to paper ballots. This was an unexpected proposal as Burns is Republican, and many people in his party do not agree with this bill. By directly changing the newly adopted way of voting electronically, back to something traditional it is a difficult bill to decide if it will pass.
Representative David Clark (R-District 100) introducing HB 1154 in a tweet using a picture of him in the Georgia Capitol, February 2, 2026. This bill is to allow the option of the death penalty for caught sex traffickers in the state of Georgia. Clark is the main sponsor of this bill along with 5 other co-sponsors, all of the same Republican party.
WhatmattersinGeorgia is a stakeholder account on X who tweeted about HB 522 sponsored by Joseph Gullett (R-District 19). It prohibits discrimination against potential organ transplant recipients based soley upon their vaccination status. More specifically, this tweet is aimed at calling out a candidate for Attorney General, Tanya Miller (D-District 62) for opposition to the bill.
Holly Kesler is a well known stakeholder on X for calling out Democrat legislation. What is important to note on this bill she is tweeting about, SB 214 sponsored by Max Burns (R-District 23), Kesler’s own party, yet she does not agree with it. This bill is to switch from electronic ballots to paper ballots to allow for more voting regulation and less tampering with votes.
