Where souls were worn thin beneath the weight of a world that demanded everything but gave nothing freely. She stood on the corner, watching the endless flood of bodies, each one tethered to something; money, ambition, fear. They moved like clockwork, their eyes fixed on screens, their hands clutching plastic cards, their hearts beating to the rhythm of transactions. Somewhere, someone was winning. The markets surged, numbers danced in the void, and a few grew fat on the hunger of millions. Yet, beneath the gleaming towers, beneath the digital banners screaming promises of happiness at a price, the city pulsed with quiet suffering. The man slumped against the cold pavement, a cardboard sign limp in his lap. The woman behind the counter at the coffee shop forced a smile through exhaustion, her body aching from too many shifts and too little sleep. The child stared through a glass window at a world of toys he could never touch. It was not just money that was hoarded. Time, love, and even hope, these too, had become currency. The dreamers, the poets, the ones who still believed in something greater, they were relics, whispered about like myths. She wondered how long they could survive in a place that demanded conformity, where idealism was dismissed as childish and compassion was a commodity too expensive to afford. She had once believed in something more. She had once thought that the world could be stitched back together, that justice and kindness could be more than words printed on protest signs, more than fleeting trends before the next distraction arrived. But belief did not pay rent. Idealism did not put food on the table. And so, like so many others, she learned to survive. She learned to swallow her voice, to nod along, to accept the terms of the world as they were written by hands that never trembled with hunger. Still, on nights when the city grew quiet when the neon lights flickered and the wind carried something that felt like ghosts, she wondered if there was still a place for those who had not yet sold their souls. A place where the weight of the world could be shared, where kindness did not come with a price tag, and where love did not have to be earned. She did not know if such a place could exist. But she knew that if it did, it would be worth everything.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
The city was a cacophony of neon and desperation, a place where dreams were bought and sold like stocks.
