Mlewi230 NP Reflection 1, Feeding America
For my nonprofit organization, I chose Feeding America. Looking at their website and social media, I noticed that their online presence connects well with our terms digital community and activism. Feeding America creates a digital community by bringing together people who share the goal of helping those struggling with hunger. Their website gives people different ways to get involved, including donating, volunteering, fundraising, and learning more about food insecurity. Their social media also helps spread information and keeps people connected to what the organization is doing. I think activism is another term that fits because Feeding America encourages people to do more than just donate. They also give people opportunities to advocate for changes that could help reduce hunger. Their online presence makes it easier for people from different places to become involved in the same cause. Overall, Feeding America uses the internet to build a community and encourage people to take action.
Looking at how other sources talk about Feeding America gave me a better understanding of their overall digital footprint. CharityWatch gives Feeding America an A- rating and reports that a large portion of its expenses goes toward its programs. This supports the positive image that Feeding America presents through its own website and social media. I also think our term public good can be connected to some of their work. Food itself is not exactly a public good because once someone consumes it, someone else cannot use that same food. However, Feeding America provides information and resources online that many people can access, including information about hunger and ways to find food assistance. What stood out to me is that their digital footprint is not only about promoting their organization or asking for donations. It also helps people find resources, learn about food insecurity, connect with others, and participate in efforts to address hunger.
