By way of transparency, I serve as a board member with the Georgia Center of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.

The gcdhh.org site states its mission and mentions its stakeholders explicitly: to strengthen and connect the Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and DeafBlind community. As prominently noted on the homepage, “A strong community reaches goals!” The captioned ASL videos and accessibility widget feel welcoming and respectful. Another strong feature is that GCDHH describes itself as a gathering place and community center, rather than merely an office where people obtain services. The services provided are grouped according to the people served, such as adults and families with DHH children. Together with a lengthy list of resources and services offered by GCDHH.org, the site helps build a digital community. The website is new (since 2025) and no longer posts past 990 reports or minutes from the board of directors. While this change may have been because website traffic analysis showed not many people were clicking on this info, this feels less transparent.

While GCDHH has Facebook and LinkedIn pages, a YouTube channel, and an Instagram account, the public does not engage much with the organization’s posts. For example, a recent post with photos of a 5K race had thumbs up reactions from just a handful of people, even though the event was well attended. While reviews are generally positive, with 4.4/5 on Google and 92% on Facebook, there is scant engagement. YouTube has even less engagement (56 videos yet only 106 subscribers), which seems surprising since YouTube is ideal for posting ASL videos. Aside from the major social media platforms, GCDHH also runs a Google Group, e-peachy. Roughly 500 subscribers share news, job openings, and events with each other. Overall, it appears that GCDHH uses social media to advertise in-person events, but the DHH community is not engaging much online.
