For my non-profit, I selected the Cold Case Investigative Research Institute Incorporated (CCIRI). I chose this np because I have the privilege of watching one of my best friends become a private investigator for cases that have been given up on. It’s not a conscious choice to let a case go, it is simply just a lack of resources. Hearing her stories of these families that haven’t given up hope after all this time is so encouraging. I think there should be more money and resources poured into people willing to volunteer their time for the sake of bringing families clarity and closure. I also chose this non-profit not for the sake of their social media, but because I have some ideas on how to better their online presence. Additionally, Sheryl McCollum, and how many amazing things she has accomplished and could continue to accomplish given the time and resources. 

The CCIRI uses investigative techniques to assist families and law enforcement with cases that others have given up on. It was founded in 2004 by Sheryl McCollum, a writer for CrimeOnLine and a speaker on the Zone 7 podcast to raise awareness for the organization. Additionally, Sheryl works as CSI for a metro Atlanta police department. The CCIRI mainly focuses on homicides, kidnapping and missing person cases, though they work on a case by case basis. The Cold Case Investigative Research Institute Incorporated involves over twenty seven colleges and universities gaining the help from over 8,000 criminal justice majors and research students. As well as 600 forensic experts volunteering their time for the cause. To help raise awareness in the communities, the organization hosts workshops anyone can attend to learn information on how to help. These workshops also help with media engagement to spread awareness for the forgotten cases.
